Manchester United veteran Tom Heaton has revealed how Senne Lammens has impressed in his first training sessions since joining the club.

Lammens, 23, completed an £18.2million transfer to Old Trafford from Royal Antwerp on deadline day, with the Belgian keeper penning a five-year contract.

Ruben Amorim's side beat off significant competition from other sides, including Aston Villa and Galatasaray, with United's director of football Jason Wilcox hailing Lammens as 'an excellent young goalkeeper with great potential'.

The goalkeeper was named on the bench for the Manchester derby on Sunday, as the Red Devils suffered a 3-0 defeat by Man City.

Lammens is expected to challenge for the No1 spot at Man United following Andre Onana's loan exit last week.

The Belgian has already impressed veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton in his initial training sessions at the club, who praised his 'goalkeeping fundamentals'.

The £18.2million summer signing is expected to challenge to become Man United's No1 keeper

'It's only been a few days training but he seems like a really good lad,' Heaton said on the Training Ground Guru podcast.

'He's calm but [has] a strong personality.

'His goalkeeping fundamentals are very impressive and I think I said that to him after a couple of days training.

'Twenty-three years old coming into Manchester United, first few days training and he's been very impressive so far. I really like his goalkeeping fundamentals.'

Lammens brother Tom who plays for Belgian lower league side Borsbeek, has reflected on his brother's move and revealed how he felt a different transfer may have been better for him.

‘There’s a lot of quality, you play for trophies there [at Galatasaray], and Senne could perhaps immediately make his mark in the Champions League ,’ Tom told Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.

‘I was initially sceptical about a move to United, because many players there had already succumbed to the pressure and couldn’t reach their full potential.'

However, Tom did go on to open up further on the transfer and expressed his hopes in regards to his brother's time at the club.

‘But ultimately, it was Senne who had to make the decision,' he added. 'United gave him the best feeling.

‘Partly because Tony Coton, United’s goalkeeping scout, had been following him for almost a year and was very convinced of his qualities.

‘It would also be great if the club could return to its former glory and if Senne could contribute to that.’
