Old Trafford outgoings

By Dan Davis

There has been some movement on the transfer front at United.

Rasmus Hojlund is expected to jet out to Italy tonight to undergo a medical at Napoli, ahead of joining on loan with a conditional obligation.

However, there was a stumbling block in Antony's proposed return to Real Betis last night, after the LaLiga club pulled out of negotiations.

A move had been agreed but there remains a dispute over personal terms, a severance payment and a deficit in wages.

As it stands, the move is off. Fellow bomb squad outcasts Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are also still to go ahead of the deadline.

'Notable absentee'

Dominic Solanke a notable absentee for Spurs. Still feeling discomfort in his ankle which ruled him out of most of pre-season. A reminder they don't have too many reliable options at centre forward. Richarlison leads the line again...
Thomas Frank on Solanke: 'He's got a minor issue with his ankle. That's been a little bit grumbling also in the pre-season. It's just too much for this game and now we have international break so hopefully he can be ready after.'

On top of the world

By Dan Davis

Just think: it was only last year that Dan Ashworth was sacked by Manchester United, reportedly after floating Thomas Frank as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag in the dugout.

Frank has enjoyed a very strong start to life at Tottenham, winning both of his Premier League games, including a victory at Manchester City.

His side have looked more structured than Ange Postecoglou's heavy-metal variation, and certainly tighter at the back.

They have also been boosted by the arrival of Xavi Simons, who had attracted interest from Chelsea. It's no wonder spirits are so high!

Mainoo mood

By Dan Davis

Kobbie Mainoo has again been benched - and he won't be happy with that after being told to fight for his place by Ruben Amorim.

The midfielder informed the club he wants to leave on loan before the transfer deadline but will not be allowed to go, not even temporarily.

He started in the mid-week defeat at Grimsby and did OK, but it's clear for all to see that Bruno Fernandes will get the nod week in, week out.

Where does that leave the talented academy graduate?

'He has said more than enough'

So just three of the United players who started at Grimsby will line up against Burnley today. Amorim could have been forgiven for making even more changes. The United boss has kept his match programme notes to 95 words, presumably because he has said more than enough already about the debacle in Cleethorpes.

Right, it's time to bring you the team news from the other 3pm games.

Familiar face

Scott Parker has stuck with the same side that beat Sunderland last weekend, meaning Hannibal Mejbri starts against his former club.

He made 13 first-team appearances for United before leaving.

Former Manchester City captain Kyle Walker also starts.

Back to the drawing board

By Dan Davis

Ruben Amorim has rung the changes after the mid-week humiliation.

Altay Bayindir is back in goal, with Andre Onana dropping down to the bench, a decision which effectively confirms he's now United's No 2.

Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Mason Mount have all been recalled.

Kobbie Mainoo is again forced to settle for a spot on the bench, as is Benjamin Sesko, who wasn't great against Grimsby.

'Some gallows humour'

Some gallows humour among the car park staff at Old Trafford: Him: 'Score prediction?' Me: '2-0'
Him: 'No I think United will score too...'
(Some of them work for both Manchester clubs)

Straight to the point

By Dan Davis

Ruben Amorim isn't messing around pre-match.

Writing in his usual programme notes, he kept his message to United supporters incredibly brief, extending to just 95 words.

Understandably, he is focusing on actions, not words, after his side's dismal penalty shootout defeat by Grimsby in mid-week.

'I can only say to our supporters that I am sorry,' he said. 'The better team on the night won the game and both what we showed, everybody has to do better. Today, we have to show intensity from the start.

'We need to go out onto the pitch and show how we are capable of playing, because the only way we fix this is by winning games.'

'Sometimes I hate my players'

By Dan Davis

Ruben Amorim certainly appeared more measured during his press conference yesterday, two days after slinging grenades.

He had insinuated after the defeat by Grimsby that his players weren't performing for him, saying they 'spoke really loud'.

But he rowed back on his comments a little, pointing to his emotional nature and vowing he would repeat the mistake time and time again.

Amorim did, however, conceded that there are occasions he wants to quit the job and that he sometimes 'hates' his players.

Pretty strong, eh. You can read his full quotes below.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has admitted that there are times when he wants to quit the club and occasions when he hates his players.

Boom or bust

By Dan Davis

This does feel like a make-or-break day for this man.

It's simple: Manchester United need a win. Anything less, and surely the axe will be hanging over his head during the international break.

No pressure, then.

Welcome along to our coverage of the 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League, folks. We've got four fixtures to sink our teeth into.
