Marcus Rashford has spoken in glowing terms about 'fantastic person' Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The 27-year-old, currently thriving on loan at Barcelona having been frozen out by Ruben Amorim at Man United, relished playing under the Norwegian at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer managed United between 2018-21 initially on an interim basis before being given the role full time.

It ended in tears after he was sacked in November 2021 following one win in seven games but Rashford reflects on that time with fond memories of both his own form and the manager.

'Ole is a fantastic person,' he told TV2. 'I loved playing under him. I can speak for many of the players at Manchester United when I say that we enjoyed playing for him.

'We played good football under Ole. It was a very successful period for me personally. He is a fantastic person, and I don't have a bad word to say about him.'

Rashford scored 22 goals in 44 games in the 2019-20 season under Solskjaer, who was one of the few Man United managers to squeeze the best out of the forward.

Under Solskjaer, United managed to finish in the Champions League places twice and also reached the Europa League final, albeit suffering a defeat by Villarreal.

Rashford is well placed to comment on United bosses having played under eight different managers at his boyhood club.

Asked if he keeps in contact with the former Besiktas and Molde boss, he replied: 'Yes, from time to time, but it’s been a while now.'

Rashford suffered a huge drop in form under Erik ten Hag and then Amorim last season before being shipped out on loan to Aston Villa where he began to find some form again.

He was then a member of the so-called 'bomb squad' in the summer of frozen out players who United wanted to move on.

Rashford eventually joined Barcelona on a season-long loan deal with the option to make it permanent next year for £30million.

The change of scene has worked wonders for Rashford and he is looking like the confidence has returned under Hansi Flick.

He provided an assist in last weekend's El Clasico defeat by Real Madrid, meaning he has 10 goal contributions in his last 10 games.

His four goals in three Champions League appearances have caught the eye, while one goal and five assists in LaLiga will give Flick a selection headache when Raphinha is fully fit again.

Solskjaer, meanwhile, is currently out of work having been sacked by Besiktas in August after being knocked out of the UEFA Conference League playoff round against Lausanne-Sport.
