TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian rider representing Idemetsu Honda Team Asia, Mario Aji, is determined to improve his performance in the Moto2 Argentina 2025 at the Termas Rio de Hondo Circuit on March 14-17.
Mario Aji started the opening grand prix of this season in GP Thailand with a promising performance, finishing in the 15th position and earning points in the race at the Buriram Circuit on that Sunday.
He said the result was thanks to the support from many parties. "I want to thank my team for their incredible support throughout the week, they made me confident and positively energetic. I look forward to improving in Argentina and achieving better results. Thank you very much!" Mario said on the Idemetsu Honda team's website on Monday.
Mario, who raced starting from the 14th position, managed to accelerate to the 11th position but dropped to the 15th position.
The Magetan-born rider admitted feeling uncomfortable with his shoulder condition, causing him to lose speed and get overtaken by his opponents, especially entering the last ten laps.
In Moto2 Thailand, Mario Aji felt comfortable right from the start of the race. "The team has been very supportive of me. I feel 100 percent physically fit to do my best. Fortunately, from the first start, I felt comfortable, even though I had to overcome shoulder pain," said the 20-year-old rider.
The rider with the number 64 expressed his joy at being able to secure his first points in the first championship of the season, but he was not entirely satisfied as he felt he had not delivered the maximum performance.
For now, Mario temporarily holds 15th place in the Moto2 standings with one point.
Mario Aji's Statistics
Mario Aji's performance in Moto2 in the 2025 season shows signs of improvement despite facing consistency challenges.
In the practice session on February 28, 2025, he performed impressively by finishing 4th in the official practice session with a time of 1 minute 35.259 seconds. This was the first time he qualified directly for the Q2 session, showing competitive initial speed. He was only 0.229 seconds behind Diogo Moreira, the session leader, and outperformed many experienced riders.
In the qualifying, Mario only managed to secure the 14th starting position. This result marked a slight decrease in performance from the practice, but still placed him in a solid mid-range for a rider in his second season. In the race on March 2, 2025, Mario finished in the 15th position, earning 1 point.
In his first season in Moto2, Mario Aji finished with four points from 20 races and ranked 29th in the final standings. At that time, he only scored points by finishing 15th in the sixth race.
