TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), has stated that the issue of the 30.16-kilometer sea fence in the waters of Tangerang, Banten, falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) rather than his institution. However, he ensured that the KKP along with the local government were conducting an investigation.
“Spatial planning in the sea area is within the authority of the KKP and outside the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure,” AHY said during a press conference at his office on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. “We don't want to rush to conclusions because the matter is currently under investigation.”
AHY emphasized that all activities must comply with applicable laws and regulations. “There must be no activities that violate the existing rules and laws,” said the Chair of the Democratic Party.
The KKP previously sealed the bamboo fence on Thursday, January 9, 2025, and issued a 20-day deadline for the builder and owner to dismantle it. The fence spans 16 villages across six sub-districts.
A source within the House of Representatives (DPR) claimed to have received reports linking Pantai Kosambi Indah (PIK 2) to the construction of the sea fence. Residents near the coast reportedly expressed concerns that the fenced-off sea area would be incorporated into the PIK 2 development project.
However, the PIK 2 Management, overseen by Agung Sedayu Group, has denied any involvement in the construction of the fence. “It has nothing to do with us,” said Toni, a representative of the PIK 2 management, in Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, as reported by Antara.
