TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The eruption of Mount Ile Lewotolok in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, occurred again on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 01:48 WITA (Central Indonesian Time). The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 30.4 millimeters and a duration of around 44 seconds.
"The eruption was accompanied by the ejection of incandescent material and a strong booming sound," said one of the officers from the Ile Lewotolok Volcano Observation Post (PGA), Yeremias Krintianto Pugel, in his report to the Geology Agency. The height of the eruption's ash column was not observed due to weather constraints, but the eruption conveyed vibrations with a maximum amplitude of 30.4 millimeters.
Prior to this, on Sunday, March 8, 2026, the 1,455-meter-high volcano erupted at 19:44 WITA. During the eruption, Mount Ile Lewotolok spewed volcanic ash up to 100 meters from its peak.
"The observed ash column had a white to gray color with moderate intensity towards the east. This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23.3 mm and a duration of 55 seconds," he said.
Acting Head of the Geological Agency Lana Saria stated that Mount Ile Lewotolok is currently at Level II or Alert status. She urged the surrounding communities and hikers not to enter or engage in activities within a two-kilometer radius from the center of the eruption of Mount Ile Lewotolok.
"Beware of potential threats such as landslides or lava avalanches and pyroclastic flows in the southern and southeastern sectors, the western sector, as well as the northeastern sector of Mount Ile Lewotolok," she added.
