TEMPO.CO, Banyuwangi - Mount Raung in East Java reportedly erupted again on Thursday morning, June 19, 2025. The column of its ash was observed to reach a height of 2,000 meters above the peak.

Observation officer of Mount Raung, Agung Tri Subekti, reported that the eruption occurred precisely at 04:43 AM local time. Based on observations from the post located in Mangaran Village, Sumber Arum District, Songgon Sub-district, Banyuwangi Regency, the eruption in the morning followed another eruption at 00:44 AM, which resulted in a 1,500-meter-high ash column.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), Geological Agency, stated that Mount Raung's status is still at Level II (Caution). At this level, residents and visitors are advised not to approach the eruption center within a three-kilometer radius from the peak crater and to descend to the caldera and stay overnight in the crater area.

Observations of seismic activity conducted by Mount Raung's observation post in the last 24 hours up to early Thursday reported a total of three volcanic earthquakes. There were also three distant tectonic earthquakes recorded.

The Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandiani, urged the public not to panic and to remain calm. She advised everyone to adhere to the recommendations issued by authorized officers. "And most importantly, do not easily believe in hoaxes and irresponsible information," she said.

The Head of the Banyuwangi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Danang Hartanto, stated that the BPBD is in direct coordination with the Mount Raung Observation Post. He also mentioned that the BPBD temporarily closed the hiking route to Mount Raung since June 14, 2025.

On that day, volcanic ash rain was experienced at the 7th climbing post. "This closure is still in effect until further notice, depending on further developments," said Danang.
