Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is set for an MRI after limping off the floor during Wednesday's 104-100 NBA Cup loss to the Houston Rockets.

The Warriors have described the injury as a right quad contusion.

Speaking to reporters after the loss in San Francisco, Warriors head coach found that news to be encouraging.

'When I heard it was a quad, I was actually relieved,' he said. 'Better than an ankle or a knee.'

Curry had several violent collisions during the game.

Rockets star Amen Thompson dropped the four-time NBA champion with a shoulder on a drive to the basket in the fourth quarter and Houston center Alperen Şengün left Curry shaken with a hard screen earlier in the game.

Curry struggled on Wednesday, scoring 14 points and committing seven costly turnovers

Ultimately, Curry left the bench with 35 seconds remaining in the game, hobbling back to the locker room in clear discomfort.

He finished with 14 points, six boards, five assists and seven turnovers in 33 minutes.

'That's a challenge, if Steph is out everybody else has to kind of improve their game a lot to fill that void,' rookie Will Richard told reporters.

But the biggest locker room quote came from veteran Jimmy Butler, who said 'it's just sad' to see the team ignore its game plan. He also challenged his teammates to 'care more' about details, particularly in Curry's absence.

'What will change the most? I think we're going to have to be damn near perfect,' Butler told reporters. 'We ain't going to have the ultimate bailout on our team, but even when he is on the floor we're going to have to do our job because we make the game real difficult.

'As great as a basketball player as he is he has a really hard job every single day, he's got to be the Batman of all Batmans and save us every night. That ain't what he's here to do.'

Losers of four of their last five games, the 10-10 Warriors are back in action Saturday against the visiting New Orleans Pelicans.
