New York Giants rookie Cam Skattebo faces up to six months out after his gruesome ankle injury at the weekend, with the team expecting him to be back in time for the start of next year's offseason program.
The star running back was rushed to the hospital on Sunday after suffering a dislocated ankle, fractured fibula and deltoid ligament rupture during the Giants' clash with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
He was carted off the field after being tackled by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun, before undergoing surgery in the Philadelphia area that evening.
Rapoport revealed on Wednesday that Skattebo's op was a success, meaning he is looking at a recovery timeline of four to six months.
That means even in the worst case, he should be ready in time for non-mandatory workouts ahead of the 2026 season.
Earlier this week Skattebo paid tribute to the city of Philadelphia and his Giants teammates as he begins his recovery from the ankle injury.

Cam Skattebo’s injury has a 4-6 month recovery, which means even at the very latest benchmark, the RB should be ready to roll for OTAs and minicamp. A horrific looking injury, but not a complicated rehab. https://t.co/VxGbPfBNPi

Skattebo then posted a statement on X. It read: 'Thank you everyone for the support!! Surgery went well. I just want to thank the city of Philly for taking the best care of me.
'Every moment I spent in the hospital with family and friends I felt loved and supported in every way. Thank you to the doctors, surgeons, and staff that did their best work on me.
'This is just the beginning of my journey and I can’t wait to show you guys all about it!!! GOD has a plan for me , stick the course and it will all work itself out , BRB'.
Skattebo's ankle could be seen pointing at a 90-degree angle during the game on Sunday, with bone poking out inside his sock.
Players from both teams immediately put their hands to their heads, while others dropped to a knee. Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart could be seen shouting in frustration and shaking his head.
'I was devastated. That's my boy. So it sucks, man. It's the worst part of the game,' Dart said after the game.
Teammates called for medics to tend to the rookie who, alongside Dart, has breathed new life into New York's season.
He was in obvious distress as he sat on the turf and Skattebo already had a brace on his lower right leg when he was driven off the field.
