New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd has been left fighting for his life after being shot in the abdomen early on Sunday morning.
Boyd was critically wounded in the shooting in Midtown Manhattan at around 2am ET, according to the New York Post.
The 29-year-old was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, the oldest public hospital in the United States, where he is said to be clinging to his life.
Police did not identify Boyd as the victim of the incident, which occurred on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue. However, The Post claims that sources confirmed it was the football player.
The shooting is said to have occurred after a verbal dispute escalated, eyewitnesses told CBS New York.
There have been no arrests so far as police investigate the shooting.

Boyd is in his first season with the Jets after he signed with them in free agency in March.
He had suited up for the Houston Texans over the past two seasons. He also enjoyed a stint with the Arizona Cardinals after being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 NFL Draft.
New York is not scheduled to play on Sunday after having faced the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
