Another week, another bizarre moment that NFL announcer Tony Romo would probably rather forget.

The analyst, 45, sent shockwaves across the country on Sunday afternoon with an unusual compliment about the New England Patriots, who beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 28-23.

During the second quarter, the former quarterback said of the Patriots: 'This defense is DTF. Details, toughness. And they finish.'

Lead commentator Jim Nantz said: 'That sounds very close to what (Mike) Vrabel tells them, too. I think the T might be for technique.'

The phrase 'DTF' is widely accepted as a reference to casual sex, so there were many viewers that were left taken aback by Romo's choice of wording.

And it inevitably led to many cringed fans taking to social media in disbelief, especially given Romo's recent track record.

Tony Romo mystified NFL fans with a bizarre remark during the New England Patriots game

'Tell me someone clipped Tony Romo saying the Pats are DTF,' one fan posted on X.

Another wrote: 'Ummmm did Tony Romo just say “this team is DTF?'

An equally perpelexed fan added: 'That’s a crazy comment and there’s no way Romo doesn’t know what that means.'

Last week, Romo had another bizarre moment when he was calling the game of the weekend between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.

He was breaking down a pass play in the first quarter when he let out a bizarre and awkward groan.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was able to get a holding call on the Bills defense as their secondary got crossed up by receivers Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice.

'You'll see right here, hold, and then another hold right there,' Romo told the audience.

He then finished his thought by saying 'I think it was...' before letting out a loud, long groan on air.

'In the beginning, he sounds like he's holding in a s**t, and at the end he sounds like he's releasing it,' wrote one user on X.

Romo was a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys during his NFL career, from 2003 until retiring in 2016.

He has worked with CBS ever since then, joining them in April 2017.
