Pittsburgh Steelers star DK Metcalf suffered a major on-field meltdown that proved to be extremely costly for his team.

The Steelers suffered a 35-25 defeat to the Green Bay Packers as Aaron Rodgers faced his former team for the first time since joining Pittsburgh.

And many fans pinpointed Metcalf's violent actions as a major reason for the week 8 Sunday Night Football loss.

During the fourth quarter the Packers scored a touchdown to extend their lead to 10 points over the hosts. And the score appeared to have rattled Metcalf, whose frustrations boiled over on the Steelers' following drive.

Following a second-down play, the wide receiver was caught visibly yanking on rival linebacker Quay Walker's facemask before aggressively jabbing him in the eye.

The violent act was picked up by the officials, who threw a flag. As a result, the Steelers were slapped with a 15-yard penalty.

Instead of facing a 3rd-and-2 while trailing by 10 with 10 minutes remaining, the punishment brought up a tricky 3rd-and-17  for Aaron Rodgers and Co, which they couldn't escape.

The senseless move from Metcalf left football fans baffled on social media as they blamed the wideout's actions for playing a big role in the Steelers' defeat.

'You’re down 10 and it’ll be 3rd and 2 and Dk Metcalf does this for it to be 3rd and 17. This is inexcusable,' one social media user wrote alongside a clip of the incident.

'DK Metcalf is a moron for this,' another posted. 'Losing the Steelers the game.'

'DK METCALF WITH ANOTHER CRASH-OUT AFTER A DEFENDER GOT IN HIS HEAD, TRASH-TALKING HIM,' one account added.

'Metcalf continues to cost his team with stupid penalties that are complete game changers.'

'Me watching Metcalf likely cost the Steelers any chance of the game with a stupid penalty,' a fourth wrote alongside a GIF of NBA legend Michael Jordan laughing.

'DK Metcalf really needs to stop doing these things lol,' chimed in a fifth.

While the defeat can't be blamed entirely on the moment of frustration from Metcalf, it did kill a vital drive in the Steelers' attempted comeback.

Rodgers was upstaged by his Green Bay Packers replacement Jordan Love as his current employers lost 35-25 against his former side.

Love, who replaced Rodgers as the Packers’ starting quarterback in 2023, passed for 360 yards and three touchdowns.

Rodgers, who won four MVPs and the 2010 Super Bowl during 18 years with the Packers, threw for 219 yards and two scores in his first game against his former club.

Tight end Tucker Kraft caught seven passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns.

Josh Jacobs ran in from three yards on the first play of the fourth quarter to keep the Packers in command.
