Steelers offensive lineman Max Scharping has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL, it has emerged.

Scharping, 29, hurt his knee during Wednesday's practice and ultimately underwent an MRI.

And NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed the following day that he will miss the rest of the year.

Scharping had not appeared in either of the Steelers' first two games this season.

He played two games for Pittsburgh last year and returned to the team on a one-year-deal this offseason.

The 2019 second-round pick began his career with the Texans, where he spent three seasons after being taken No. 55 overall.

Scharping played twice for the Steelers last season but was inactive for the first two weeks this year

He was then released by Houston in 2022 before latching on with the Bengals, where he spent two seasons.

Scharping has played in 81 NFL games with 33 starts.

The veteran was brought back to Pittsburgh as part of an offensive line group tasked with protecting 40-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The Steelers (1-1) will face the Patriots this weekend.
