The Buffalo Bills temporarily took Josh Allen out of the game with a suspected broken nose in the first quarter of their game against the New York Jets on Sunday.

The reigning NFL MVP suffered the gruesome injury while trying to run for a first down in his own territory, when Jowon Briggs took him down and his face mask appeared to slam into the turf.

Allen managed to get to his feet but ran straight to the sideline, where he was immediately attended to by medics and Mitch Trubisky replaced him in the game.

Speaking live on CBS, sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson revealed that Allen 'came out holding underneath his nose and was bleeding profusely.'

She added: 'A team of doctors surrounded him trying to quell the bleeding. They finally added some cotton into that nostril.'

On social media, fans were convinced that the Bills QB had broken his nose, but that is yet to be confirmed by the team.

One fan wrote: 'Josh Allen just 100% broke his nose and immediately asked for them to snap it back straight. Football guy.'

Another added: 'Tony Romo trying to make all of Western New York hyperventilate by insisting something is seriously wrong with Josh Allen after he gets popped in the nose.'

In the end, he missed a few plays but then returned to the game, with a nose plug up his nostril in a bid to stop the bleeding.

At that point in the game at MetLife Stadium, the Super Bowl favorite Bills were 10-0 up against the New York Jets.
