The NRL has been left sweating over its Grand Final entertainment on Sunday as the Brisbane Broncos are set to take on the Melbourne Storm at Stadium Australia.

The league announced earlier this month that Grammy-nominated artist Teddy Swims had put pen to paper on a deal to perform at the rugby league showpiece event.

However, the pop artist, who blends soul and country into his tracks, has left some fans heading to next weekend’s Grand Final sweating over whether he’ll be fit to perform.

It comes after the American artist was forced to cancel multiple shows in Hawaii in the build-up to his appearance at Stadium Australia.

‘Honolulu, I’m so sorry to let you know that both tonight’s show (Saturday, September 27th) and tomorrow’s (Sunday, September 28th) rescheduled performance will not be taking place,’ the artist, whose birth name is Jaten Collin Dimsdale, said on his Instagram.

‘My doctor has not cleared me to sing, and I need a little time to recover before I can give you the show you deserve.’

The Daily Telegraph has claimed that the NRL has been in contact with Swims’ management, but they have played down concerns over his Grand Final commitments.

Swims, who has hits including Lose Control, Bad Dreams and The Door, added that all tickets purchased from TicketMaster would be refunded for his two shows in Honolulu.

‘I hate do disappoint you and truly apologise for letting you down,’ he explained.

‘Thank you for your love patience and understanding.

‘I can’t wait until I’m back and able to sing for you again. I love love love you!’

Following Sunday’s Grand Final, Swims is also set to go on tour around Australia and New Zealand.

The American artist is due to jet out to Christchurch, New Zealand, two days after his appearance at Stadium Australia.

He is then due to travel to Auckland for a show on October 9, before heading back to Sydney for three shows at the Sydney Olympic Park.

Swims will join a list of big names, should he play next Sunday, including the likes of Gang of Youths, The Black Eyed Peas and Keith Urban.
