TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One of the parents from SDN Depok Baru 3 (elementary school), Sari Chaniago, felt that the distribution of free nutritious meals (MBG) for children during school holidays was not effective. She also questioned why MBG was being distributed when the children were not attending school. "It would be better if it's done on school days," said Sari when met at SDN Depok Baru 3, West Java, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
According to her, the government should not bother distributing MBG to children during holidays. She believes that there are more urgent matters that the government should prioritize, such as assisting the disaster-affected communities in Sumatra. "I don't expect much from MBG. Since it's a holiday, it can be put on hold for the time being. The government should focus on helping others first. Sumatra is in greater need of food," she said.
Sari disclosed the content of the MBG package for school holidays. In a blue cloth bag, Sari took out a variety of dry foods, including a 1000 ml carton of milk, packaged bread, plain bread, a pack of tempeh chips, a pack of boiled eggs, a dragon fruit, and two crystal guavas.
The pack of boiled eggs contains four chicken eggs and approximately 10 quail eggs. Sari estimated that the total value of the food in the school holiday MBG package is around Rp80,000 - Rp100,000.
"The milk is about Rp20,000, two guavas for Rp10,000, tempeh chips for Rp15,000, a pack of eggs for Rp10,000, five packs of packaged bread for Rp15,000, and packaged plain bread for Rp10,000. These are approximate prices based on prices for household groceries," she explained. If we calculate the estimated value of the school holiday MBG package, it's about Rp80,000.
Sari mentioned that the MBG package is provided for nine days of holidays. If the total value of the MBG package is divided by nine, the price per day is around Rp8,800. "That's just an estimated price. Roughly," she said. It's known that the students of SDN Depok Baru 3 started their holiday on December 24, 2025, and January 12, 2025.
Unlike SDN Depok Baru 1, the school holiday in that SD started on December 22, 2025. One of the parents, Sarah, said she didn't mind having to pick up the MBG package even during the school holiday. "I don't mind. It's not complicated. It's quite helpful for me to provide snacks for the kids during the holiday," she said. The distance from Sarah's house to her child's school is also close. "So, I feel safe about it," she said.
