TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The spokesperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDIP, Ahmad Basarah, claimed that the relationship between Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto remains good despite the party requesting regional leaders to postpone their retreat in Magelang. According to him, the General Secretary of the Gerindra Party, Ahmad Muzani, also agrees.
"Mr. Muzani stated that even though some regional leaders of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle did not participate in the retreat, Mr. Muzani firmly stated that the relationship between Ms. Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo Subianto remains good," Basarah said in a press conference at the PDIP Headquarters, Jakarta on Tuesday, February 25th, 2025.
According to Basarah, the PDIP's stance on the regional leaders' retreat does not indicate any issues with President Prabowo Subianto. He reiterated that Megawati's attitude towards Prabowo remains consistent with the good relationship that they have. "It serves as the basis for both of them to continue communicating with each other," he said.
Furthermore, he stated that the party has never prohibited regional leaders from participating in the retreat at the Military Academy in Magelang. According to him, Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri only instructed her cadres to postpone their departure. "In the instruction, the Chairperson never mentioned that all of the elected cadres as Regional Heads in the 2024 Regional Elections should participate in the retreat held by the government," Basarah said.
Megawati's instruction is outlined in Letter Number 7294/IN/DPP/II/2025 dated Thursday, February 20th, 2025. The letter instructs:
1. Regional heads and deputy regional heads to postpone their travel to participate in the retreat in Magelang on February 21-28, 2025. If they are already on their way to Magelang, they should stop and wait for further instructions from the Chairperson.
2. To remain in active communication and be on standby for a commander's call.
Currently, Megawati has asked regional leaders who have not gone to Magelang to remain in their respective regions so that they can directly serve the people. According to Basarah, Megawati wants her cadres who are elected as regional leaders to prioritize real work for the people by directly serving them in their respective regions.
"Megawati Soekarnoputri believes that leaders who directly engage and meet with the people ('turun ke bawah' or 'down to the ground') are effective in absorbing and directly hearing the aspirations and needs of the people," he said.
According to Basarah, based on Circular Letter of the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Number 200.5/628/SJ, dated February 11th, 2025, there will be a second wave of regional leaders' retreat. Therefore, PDIP regional leaders who are not present now can participate in the next implementation.
At present, almost all PDIP regional leaders have joined the regional leaders' retreat, such as the Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung, Regent of Tapanuli Tengah Masinton Pasaribu, and Mayor of Yogyakarta Hasto Wardoyo. The Ministry of Home Affairs recorded 97 regional leaders from PDIP, and as of yesterday, Monday, 84 have attended.
