A fan in Pittsburgh is in critical condition after falling from an upper section at PPG Paints Arena during a hockey game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the St. Louis Blues.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, fans saw a man in a Penguins jersey stumble down several stairs between sections 201 and 234 before flipping over the glass at the bottom of the upper deck and falling below. One eyewitness said the man 'cartwheeled right over the railing'.
Police told the outlet the fan then fell into the suite level and hit another person, who declined being taken to the hospital.
From there, the fan then fell one more level onto the walkway between the arena's FNB Club and Section 122.
In a statement, the Penguins confirmed the incident saying the man was 'immediately attended to by Pittsburgh EMS as well as PPG Paints Arena personnel and has since been transported to a local hospital.'
Multiple reports have said that the fan is in critical condition or that his injuries are life-threatening.
In response to the incident, ten seats in the first two rows of Section 234 were roped off and a pane of glass near the bottom of the stairs in that section was missing, according to the Post-Gazette.
This incident comes less than a day after a worker at Acrisure Stadium - the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers - fell 50 feet from the scoreboard before the team played against the Green Bay Packers.
That worker, who was a videographer for NBC Sports, landed on a catwalk. First responders lowered the injured man with a rope and a stokes basket before transporting him to the hospital.
He was initially reported as being in critical condition - with medical personnel reporting a 'significant amount of blood loss'.
Earlier this year, another fan fell from the right field seats at Pittsburgh's NC Park during a Pirates baseball game.
He managed to completely recover after a lengthy stay at a local hospital.
