TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In 2025, the poverty rate in Solo, Central Java, decreased to 7.69 percent, affecting approximately 40,080 people. Previously, in 2024, the poverty rate was at 8.31 percent or 43,280 people.
The Deputy Mayor, who also serves as the Chair of the Regional Poverty Alleviation Coordination Team (TKPKD) of Solo, Astrid Widayani, disclosed the data based on Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data.
"Good news, the BPS data has been released. In 2024, poverty in Solo was at 8.31 percent, and thankfully, in 2025 it decreased to 7.69 percent," said Astrid to reporters in Solo on Friday, October 31, 2025.
Astrid stated that this achievement has motivated all regional government agencies (OPD) to strengthen poverty alleviation strategies. Strategies for intervention have been developed. "Hopefully, this will create optimism for the cross-OPD synergy that we are currently strategizing for intervention," she said.
According to Astrid, poverty alleviation programs cannot solely rely on one department. All regional government agencies must collaborate based on their respective functions and authorities. "Initially, it was mandated to a single parent OPD, namely the Department of Social Affairs under the Ministry of Social Affairs. However, we want poverty alleviation in Solo to be a collective movement," she added.
Astrid hopes that all OPDs and programs in Solo will support poverty alleviation efforts. She mentioned that the Solo City Government has been focusing its programs on slum areas that are pockets of poverty. Several priority areas are located in the Banjarsari Subdistrict, such as the Gilingan and Nusukan villages.
"The slum areas happen to be in Banjarsari, one of them in Gilingan. The focus will be on villages with many uninhabitable houses. We focus on improvements, seek corporate social responsibility (CSR) and partnerships to support the renovations," she explained.
In addition to physical improvements, Astrid stated that the city government also strengthens the social protection aspect and ensures that social assistance and social guarantees are targeted. She added that the Solo City Government is currently developing a central welfare database to make poverty alleviation policies more targeted. "We are consolidating data from three OPDs, namely the Department of Social Affairs, Population and Civil Registration Office, and Information and Communication Office," she said.
Following this, a central welfare database will be created that all OPDs can use to formulate policies and programs. Astrid is optimistic that with collaborative work and more accurate data, the poverty rate in Solo can continue to decline in the coming years. "We want this decline to continue. With collaborative work, targeted interventions, and valid data, hopefully, poverty in Solo can continue to decrease," she said.
