TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that Chair of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY has the potential to compete with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka in future presidential contests.
According to Prabowo, both of them are still young and have the opportunity to become president. "Now sitting side by side, in the future they can compete, these two individuals," said Prabowo to AHY and Gibran who were sitting side by side at the 6th Congress of the Democratic Party at the Ritz Carlton South Jakarta, on Tuesday, 25th February 2025.
Prabowo then mentioned the 7th President of RI, Jokowi, who had defeated him twice in presidential elections. However, Jokowi still invited him to join the government. "Mr. Jokowi defeated me, I want to say he defeated me, it's not appropriate for a journalist, the President of Indonesia, to say such things, defeated me twice, right," he said.
The closing event of the 6th congress of the Democratic Party was attended by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
In this congress, ministers of the Red and White Cabinet and leaders of state high institutions were present. In addition, chairpersons of political parties, both parliamentary and non-parliamentary, were invited guests at the closing of the 6th Congress.
The party congress, founded by the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, was held for two days on 24-25 February 2025. The theme raised in the 6th congress was "For the People, Democrat Supports the Government of President Prabowo."
Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) was re-elected as Chair of the Democratic Party for 2025-2030. He was elected by acclamation in the plenary session of the 6th Congress of the Democratic Party held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Jakarta last Monday. "Deciding, appointing Doctor Hajji Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono as the Chair of the Central Leadership Council of the Democratic Party for the term 2025-2030," said the president of the 4th Democratic Congress, Edhie Baskoro Yudyohono, at the event location.
After the appointment of the chairperson, the Democratic Party continued to appoint the chairperson of the Democratic High Council, re-electing Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
