TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto cited that farmers' and fishers' support was the key factor behind his victory in the 2024 Presidential Election.
"I believe that HKTI (Indonesian Farmers' Association) and KTNA (Reliable Farmers and Fishers's Contact) were key to my [election] victory," Prabowo said while attending the 17th National Conference of KTNA in Gorontalo in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Prabowo said he has a long-standing close relationship with farmers and fishers, having long worked with them through various agricultural organizations.
According to him, his political career is also driven by the desire to advance the welfare of the agriculture and fisheries workers.
The president also said he remains committed to politics despite several defeats in multiple elections. "I participated in the general election five times, lost four times, and won the last one," he said.
His belief that farmers, fishers, workers, and other small community groups deserve greater attention drove his struggle in political contests.
The President believes the agriculture and fisheries sectors hold a strategic position because they are the main source of food for the Indonesian people.
During this occasion, Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for the farmers and fishers who have contributed to national food security.
According to him, Indonesia's success in food production growth is inseparable from the hard work of farmers and fishers in various regions.
Prabowo emphasized that the government will continue to strengthen the agriculture and fisheries sectors as part of efforts to improve public welfare.
