TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic about achieving food self-sufficiency or independence in meeting food needs within the next 4-5 years.
"We are even ready to become the world's food barn," Prabowo said in his speech at the Inauguration of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the Period of 2024-2029 at Nusantara Building, parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Sunday, October 20, 2024, as quoted from Antara.
Prabowo mentioned this after discussing the issue of food with several experts. Therefore, food self-sufficiency must be realized to prevent dependence on food supplies from other countries.
The President stated that during a crisis, no country is willing to sell their food supplies. "We must not depend on food sources from outside. In a crisis, in times of emergency, no one will allow their goods to be sold to us," he said. "Therefore, there is no other way; as soon as possible, we must achieve food security."
Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka previously took the oath of office as the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the term 2024-2029 in the Plenary Session of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) at Nusantara Building, Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta.
A total of 709 out of 732 members of the MPR RI witnessed the swearing-in ceremony. The Plenary Session of the MPR RI was also attended by national figures, political party leaders, and representatives of friendly countries.
