TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto left Jakarta and departed for Japan on Sunday morning, March 29, 2026. According to the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo and a limited entourage took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta at around 10:35 AM.
The Head of State's departure was witnessed by Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Meanwhile, accompanying Prabowo on the flight to Japan were Foreign Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Teddy stated that President Prabowo is scheduled to conduct several state activities during his visit to the Land of the Rising Sun. "One of them is President Prabowo's state call to Japanese Emperor Naruhito," said Teddy in his statement.
Subsequently, Prabowo is also scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The meeting between Prabowo and Sanae Takaichi is planned to take place at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo.
The meeting is expected to be a momentum to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in various fields. "There are several cooperations in the fields of investment, energy, maritime, and digital," said Teddy.
Prabowo's visit to Japan is scheduled for March 29-31. This visit to Japan is his first as the President of Indonesia. Previously, in September 2025, Prabowo personally visited the 2025 Osaka Expo in Kansai, Japan.
Visit to South Korea
After completing the series of visits to Japan, President Prabowo is scheduled to continue his journey to South Korea. South Korea's news agency, Yonhap, reported that Prabowo will visit the Land of Ginseng from March 31 to April 2, 2026. The visit aims to discuss bilateral relations with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
As reported by Yonhap, a spokesperson for the South Korean President, Kang Yu-jung, in a written statement, said that the two leaders will discuss practical cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, defense and security industry, imitation intelligence, infrastructure, shipbuilding, nuclear energy, energy transition, and the cultural sector.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that President Prabowo and President Lee Jae Myung will also discuss ways to enhance the relationship between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Korea. Then, they are planned to discuss security situations and other global issues, including the Korean Peninsula and West Asia.
