TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has invited Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Jakarta for an official visit. The meeting is scheduled to take place this Friday, March 27, 2026.
"Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim will make a special visit to Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, on March 27, 2026, at the invitation of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto," the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, March 26, 2026, as reported by Antara.
According to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anwar's visit to Indonesia focuses on geopolitical developments, particularly the conflicts in the Middle East and their impact on regional stability and the global economy, including Indonesia and Malaysia.
The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that developments in the Middle East conflict require comprehensive, careful, and coordinated discussions between Indonesia and Malaysia. Both countries, according to the ministry, need to align their positions and strengthen strategic cooperation in responding to the situation.
Prabowo and Anwar, according to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are expected to intensify diplomatic efforts to ease tensions. Additionally, the two leaders are also working to ensure the continuity of global trade routes and crucial supply chains for the welfare of both countries' populations.
Tempo has contacted State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya for comment. However, neither official responded to the inquiry.
Previously, Prabowo contacted several Muslim leaders, including Anwar Ibrahim, via telephone in observance of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri. According to the Malaysian PM, he and Prabowo exchanged views on various current issues, including the Iran-Israel conflict.
"During the discussion on regional and global issues, they both stressed the importance of sustained diplomatic approaches. According to Anwar, both he and Prabowo are calling for peace regarding the war in the Middle Eastern region," Anwar wrote on his Instagram account @anwaribrahim_my, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Anwar also informed Prabowo that Malaysia continues to support and strengthen diplomatic efforts to ease the Iran-Israel conflict. "So that tensions can be eased, civilian lives protected, and meaningful negotiation spaces opened towards a peaceful and lasting solution," Anwar stated.
Additionally, the two state leaders agreed to arrange a meeting in the near future. Anwar even proposed a state visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, as a step to further strengthen bilateral relations.
