TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid discussed the government's strategic approach to protect children in digital spaces. Meutya met with the President at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, January 13, 2025, to provide an update on the Komdigi Ministry's various digital transformation initiatives, including the digitalization of government systems, or e-government.

“We discuss [a framework] to protect our children in the digital realm. We'll see the exact details later,” said Meutya after the meeting.

She further elaborated on the potential implementation of a government regulation as a preliminary step, while exploring the establishment of more comprehensive and stringent regulations designed to safeguard children in the digital sphere.

“We will meticulously study it first, but in principle, the government will initially issue a government regulation while working towards more stable regulations,” she explained.

The Golkar Party politician said the government would also involve the House of Representatives (DPR) to determine the formulation of the regulations. “Once again, we will issue regulations while discussing with the DPR about regulations and laws to be issued to protect our children,” the minister reaffirmed.

Meutya emphasized that Prabowo highlighted the issue of child protection in the digital age. “He conveyed [the importance to] continue, study [the strategies] so they can be implemented. He strongly supports [the implementation of regulations on] child protection in the future in our digital society,” she said.

The limited meeting lasted for over an hour. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya was also present during this discussion.

Digital Transformation and E-Government

The President and the Komdigi Minister also discussed the ministry’s digital transformation programs and the implementation of e-government in various public service sectors.

“[We talked about] programs in the Komdigi Ministry, including those related to our support for digital transformation and e-government. As we know the President is highly concerned with digitalization,” said Meutya.
