TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto paid a courtesy visit to Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Monday to bolster the friendly ties between the two nations.
Upon arriving at the Imperial Palace complex, President Prabowo was greeted directly by Emperor Naruhito as he stepped out of his vehicle. The two leaders then proceeded to the Take-no-ma room for a joint photo session before starting their talks.
According to a statement from the Presidential Press Bureau quoted in Jakarta, the meeting took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere where the two leaders held a one-on-one conversation. In addition to discussing formal state affairs, the conversation was also marked by the exchange of lighthearted stories reflecting the personal ties between the Indonesian President and the Japanese Emperor.
Besides meeting Emperor Naruhito, President Prabowo also held a separate meeting with Japan’s Crown Prince Fumihito, the Emperor’s younger brother. This meeting further strengthened the emotional bonds and friendship between Indonesia and Japan, extending even to the imperial family.
Following the formal meeting session, President Prabowo, along with Emperor Naruhito and Crown Prince Fumihito, attended a state luncheon, held at Rensui North, a section of the Imperial Palace complex known for its classical architecture.
The luncheon atmosphere was relaxed, with a view of a traditional Japanese garden neatly arranged directly in front of the two leaders.
President Prabowo expressed his admiration for the beauty of the garden while engaging in casual conversation with Emperor Naruhito.
The warmth created during this moment serves as a strong signal that the Indonesia-Japan strategic partnership continues to move forward toward a more robust foundation. The closeness demonstrated by the two leaders is expected to serve as a strong foundation for future cooperation.
During the courtesy visit, President Prabowo was accompanied by a number of high-ranking state officials, including Ragowo Hediprasetyo, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
