TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has discussed a proposal for nationwide energy-saving measures with his ministers as Indonesia seeks to anticipate volatility in global energy markets amid the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the issue was raised during a follow-up coordination meeting held under Prabowo’s directives on several economic policies.
“Various strategic steps were discussed in this meeting,” Airlangga said in a statement on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Airlangga said the meeting covered several policy options, including adjustments to work-from-home arrangements, more targeted budget efficiency measures, and strengthening the B50 biodiesel program.
“We also discussed the proposal for national energy savings,” said Airlangga, the former Golkar Party chairman.
He said the energy-saving measures were reviewed comprehensively, taking into account developments in the Middle East conflict and broader global uncertainty, which could affect energy stability, supply chains, and Indonesia’s economy.
According to Airlangga, the government is committed to ensuring that every policy is implemented in a measured and responsive manner. He said the measures are needed to maintain stability, strengthen national resilience, and support economic growth.
Prabowo held a virtual meeting with his ministers on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Cabinet Secretary Lt. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya said the meeting focused on economic policy.
“From Saturday afternoon until this evening, March 28, 2026, President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting,” Teddy wrote in a caption on the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account, @sekretariat.kabinet.
Teddy said around 15 ministers joined the video conference, including Airlangga, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno, and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.
He added that the meeting was aimed at finalizing adjustments and decisions on several economic and energy policies.
The government is currently preparing several policy scenarios to mitigate the impact of the global crisis, as the conflict in West Asia since late February has driven up global oil prices and disrupted supply.
