TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetyo Adi, revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed his staff to maintain stable food prices ahead of Ramadan. According to him, the Head of State has directed that there should be no increase in food prices, except for the price of harvested dry paddy at the farmer level.
"Prices for farmers and breeders must also be good. The government wants it to continuously be maintained during the upcoming national religious holidays," said Arief in an official statement on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Therefore, Arief stated that the government is seeking active participation from all regional governments in securing food supplies and stabilizing prices. He claimed to have conveyed this request to all governors, mayors, and regents, asking them to support the strategy for securing food supplies and prices ahead of the national religious holidays.
In a signed letter, Bapanas requested that local governments conduct an inventory of available food stocks and prices. Bapanas also requested regional governments to control and take preventive actions against potential disruptions in food supply and price stability.
Furthermore, Bapanas urged regional governments to continue periodic monitoring and supervision of food supplies and prices. Lastly, Bapanas encouraged regional governments to establish inter-regional cooperation, particularly between surplus and deficit regions, or areas with potentially volatile food prices.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono previously revealed Prabowo's message instructing the Ministry of Agriculture to monitor the stability of food prices. He said that the 8th president's instruction is an important note for his ministry.
"I think this is about the law of supply and demand. This means that if we want commodity prices to remain stable, the supply must be sufficient," said Sudaryono when met at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Bogor, West Java, on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
