TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has reportedly dismissed Arief Prasetyo Adi from his position as Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) and appointed Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman as his successor.
The decision is stipulated in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 116/P of 2025, a copy of which was obtained by Tempo
The decree, signed by Prabowo on October 9, 2025, officially relieves Arief of his duties and installs Amran in the position.
“Arief Prasetyo Adi is honorably dismissed from his position as Head of the National Food Agency, with gratitude for his dedication and service during his tenure,” the decree reads.
It further states that Amran Sulaiman is appointed as the new Head of Bapanas and is entitled to financial rights and facilities in accordance with existing regulations. “This Presidential Decree takes effect as of the date of its issuance,” the document concludes.
The decree cites the need to improve government performance as one of the considerations behind the leadership change. It also refers to Article 41, Paragraph (1) of Presidential Regulation Number 66 of 2021, which grants the President authority to appoint and dismiss the head of the agency.
Tempo has reached out to State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi and his deputies, Juri Ardiantoro and Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, for confirmation of the decree’s validity.
Messages were also sent to Arief Prasetyo’s WhatsApp number but have not yet received a response, although they show blue check marks.
Interestingly, the decree was issued on the same day Arief conducted an unannounced inspection at a Bulog warehouse in Ngrupit, Jenangan Sub-district, Ponorogo Regency, East Java.
During the visit, Arief assured that all rice distributed to the public, whether through the Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program or government food aid, had passed strict quality checks.
“Inspection results showed that rice quality in Ponorogo is excellent. There are no signs of weevils, and the stock is secure until next year,” he told state news agency Antara.
Arief was appointed as the first head of Bapanas by former president Joko Widodo on February 21, 2022. Before leading the agency, he served as President Director of PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI) and previously as President Director of Food Station, a Jakarta-owned food enterprise (BUMD).
