TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has confirmed that Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Aquinas Muliatna Djiwandono is among the candidates being considered for the post of deputy governor of Bank Indonesia, following the resignation of incumbent deputy governor Juda Agung.
“In accordance with applicable regulations, the process to fill the vacant position must proceed,” Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Prasetyo said President Prabowo Subianto had responded to Juda Agung’s resignation by submitting a presidential letter to the House of Representatives (DPR), initiating the formal process to appoint a new deputy governor at the central bank.
He explained that the selection of candidates for the Bank Indonesia deputy governorship will be conducted by the DPR through a fit and proper test.
“Several names have been proposed, one of which is the candidate we put forward, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono,” Prasetyo said.
Thomas Djiwandono, widely known as Tommy Djiwandono, is the nephew of President Prabowo Subianto. He is the eldest son of Soedradjad Djiwandono and Biantiningsih Miderawati.
A politician from the Gerindra Party, Djiwandono joined the cabinet toward the end of former president Joko Widodo’s administration. He was inaugurated as Deputy Finance Minister II on July 18, 2024, a position he continues to hold.
In addition to Djiwandono, Prasetyo said two other candidates have been proposed for the deputy governor post, but declined to disclose their identities.
Prasetyo also did not provide details on the reasons behind Juda Agung’s resignation, despite the fact that his term as Bank Indonesia deputy governor still had about one year remaining.
According to Bank Indonesia’s official website, Juda Agung was appointed deputy governor under Presidential Decree No. 147/P of 2021, dated December 24, 2021. He was sworn in on January 6, 2022, for a term scheduled to run until 2027.
