TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto is expected to appoint a new Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) in the coming days following the resignation of Febrie Adriansyah, who stepped down shortly before being named a suspect in a corruption investigation.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the government is prioritizing the appointment process and expects a decision to be made soon.
"God willing, this may be one of the matters that we need to expedite compared to other processes," Prasetyo said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
According to Prasetyo, the Attorney General's Office has submitted a letter to President Prabowo proposing Asset Recovery Agency Chief Kuntadi as a candidate to replace Febrie.
The letter, sent by Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin, also contains recommendations for several other senior positions within the Attorney General's Office, including the post of deputy attorney general. However, Prasetyo said he could not recall the other names proposed.
He asked the public to be patient as the recommendations must first undergo review by the government's Final Assessment Team (tim penilai akhir), which evaluates candidates for senior state positions.
The assessment team's recommendations will then be submitted to President Prabowo. If approved, the appointments will be formalized through a presidential decree.
Febrie Case Handed Over to AGO
The corruption case involving Febrie is now being handled by the Attorney General's Office after the National Police transferred the investigation.
Police previously named Febrie a suspect in connection with alleged corruption cases involving state insurer PT Asabri, state steel producer PT Krakatau Steel, and a coal supply case that allegedly contributed to power outages in Sumatra.
A lawyer identified as Don Ritto has also been named a suspect and is currently being held at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police detention facility.
Acting Deputy Attorney General Rudi Margono said prosecutors would begin questioning Febrie once the transfer process is completed.
"It will only start then," Rudi said following a press conference at the Attorney General's Office in Jakarta on Saturday, July 11.
He added that prosecutors are still awaiting the transfer of evidence and the results of the police investigation.
National Police Corruption Eradication Corps Chief Inspector General Totok Suharyanto confirmed that the case file involving the former senior prosecutor would be handed over to the Attorney General's Office.
Hundreds of Billions of Rupiah in Assets Seized
During a series of searches linked to the investigation, police seized large amounts of cash and gold, including tens of kilograms of gold bars and hundreds of billions of rupiah in local and foreign currencies.
The largest seizure took place at a residence in Sentul, Bogor, where investigators confiscated 74 kilograms of gold bars. Authorities also found US$4.77 million and S$14.08 million in cash, with the combined value estimated at around Rp476 billion.
Earlier searches at Cafe de'Clan Signature in Cipete, South Jakarta, resulted in the seizure of S$3.13 million and US$889,965 from a safe.
Investigators also confiscated Rp7.2 billion in cash and 16 different foreign currencies from Koin Money Changer.
The investigation has become one of Indonesia's most high-profile corruption cases in recent years, given Febrie's former role overseeing major corruption prosecutions within the Attorney General's Office.
