TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will receive an official visit from Australian Prime Minister (PM) Anthony Albanese in Indonesia on May 14-16. This visit marks PM Albanese's first foreign trip after being re-elected in the Australian federal elections and sworn in on May 13, 2025.
"PM Albanese, who has just been re-elected as the Prime Minister of Australia, is scheduled to be inaugurated on May 13, 2025, and will immediately depart to start his visit to Indonesia the following day, on May 14, 2025, in the evening," said Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, in an official statement on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
The meeting between President Prabowo and PM Albanese is planned to take place at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta with a number of agenda items. During the meeting, the two leaders will discuss various priority issues, including enhancing Indonesia-Australia cooperation in various sectors.
Prior to that, on Monday, May 12, 2025, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya met with the Australian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, Roderick Bruce Brazier, at the Cabinet Secretariat Building in Jakarta to discuss PM Albanese's visit agenda.
This official visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in various strategic sectors. Additionally, through this visit, it is hoped that several concrete agreements will be reached, bringing direct benefits to the people of both countries.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto previously received an official visit from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Lima, Peru, on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
During the meeting, Albanese appreciated President Prabowo's global geopolitical moves, including his inaugural foreign visits to China and the US. PM Albanese hopes that Indonesia-Australia relations and cooperation will become even closer, especially in the fields of agriculture, education, and health.
"I want to see more cooperation between our two countries. I hope that this relationship will grow stronger in the future," said PM Albanese.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia and Australia are strong friends. As good neighbors and friends, Indonesia is committed to continually enhancing cooperation with Australia in various fields.
"We consider Australia to be a good friend of Indonesia. We want to further strengthen cooperation in various fields, including Australia's participation in the Indonesian economy," President Prabowo said.
