TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with hundreds of university rectors and leaders from both state and private universities at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on March 13, 2025. He hoped that universities could become the backbone of research and contribute to the realization of government programs
Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto said that the meeting was attended by rectors from 124 state universities across Indonesia, along with four rectors from private universities, 18 academic university representatives, and 17 leaders from Higher Education Service Institutions (LLDIKTI).
In addition, the President extended invitations to deans, particularly those from economics, engineering, and agriculture faculties, or those whose expertise aligns with economic growth and Indonesia's future economic landscape.
"The President outlined the current state of Indonesia, its global and strategic positioning, and its high potential to become a developed nation," Brian explained following the meeting at the Presidential Palace on March 13, 2025.
Prabowo emphasized to the rectors that a nation that excels in science and technology is destined for prosperity. Therefore, he solicited feedback and input from the assembled rectors and deans.
Brian further conveyed that the President highlighted the role of the Investment Management Agency Danantara, envisioning it as a driving force for strategic industries in the archipelago.
"In this context, universities are expected to be the cornerstone of research, innovation, and the development of human resources to support the advancement of industries that are poised for rapid growth," he stated.
"The President also urged the rectors in attendance to continue producing exceptional outputs that will bolster Indonesia's self-reliance," Brian concluded.
