Newcastle United assistant Graeme Jones has emerged as a candidate for new Sweden manager Graham Potter's backroom team.

Potter is considering an approach to Newcastle for Jones, as he looks to assemble his coaching staff ahead of his first international campaign.

Potter, who was confirmed as Sweden's head coach on Monday, is understood to be a long-time admirer of Jones, whose tactical acumen and international experience make him a leading candidate for the role.

Jones, currently part of Eddie Howe's coaching team at Newcastle, has previously held assistant positions with both England and Belgium, earning a strong reputation for his detailed approach and attacking philosophy — qualities that align closely with Potter's own footballing principles.

Jones has also worked closely with Sweden talisman Alexander Isak.

Potter's intent is to bring an innovative, progressive edge to the Swedish national setup.

The role for 55-year-old Jones would likely be part-time initially as Potter's contract runs until March with an option to extend should they qualify for the World Cup.
