Vitor Pereira has been handed a new three-year contract at Wolves as the club seek to turn around their dreadful start to the season.

Ahead of Saturday's clash with Leeds at Molineux, Wolves sit bottom of the Premier League after losing all four of their opening games.

But Wolves have decided to put their faith in Pereira, who did an outstanding job in leading the club to comfortable survival last season after taking over from Gary O’Neil last December.

Chairman Jeff Shi said: ‘Now is a time for stability. Vitor needs time to work with the squad, to build a chemistry with new players, and we will do everything to support him and his staff.

‘Vitor has made a very positive impact during his time at Wolves. He’s brought clarity, energy and a team spirit that gives us a foundation to be successful. What he achieved last season was excellent.’

The summer was challenging for Wolves, with key players Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo all departing, and replaced by signings who lack Premier League experience.

A significant section of the Wolves support has long been fed up with Shi and owners Fosun and the mood will turn dark on Saturday if Wolves cannot find their first win.

Last summer, Wolves rewarded O’Neil and his staff with new contracts, only to sack him before the year was out. They are confident they will not have to do the same with Pereira.

Pereira said: ‘We will increase our level, with ambition to make our supporters proud on the pitch. This is the moment that we need to be united. We are a one club city, and this city loves football.

‘It is a passion. This is the spirit that we need to create together, to face and to compete with the best teams in this league.’
