TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of South Africa, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, has invited the ministers of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to visit South Africa directly when they come to Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Cyril Ramaphosa felt honored as South Africa holds the G20 presidency and welcomes Indonesia's contribution to the economic bloc. He stated that Indonesia's presence in the G20 is crucial as it can elevate the dignity of the G20.
Furthermore, Indonesia and South Africa are key players in the Global South. They advocate for the significant role of southern countries in fostering good trade relations, investment, and economic progress among countries in the Southern Hemisphere.
"For this purpose, we want to encourage you (Prabowo) to send, as you mentioned in our bilateral meeting and discussion, ministers to come to South Africa to explore any opportunities there," Cyril Ramaphosa said during the meeting session at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
Cyril Ramaphosa pointed out the many similarities between the two countries and suggested that they be used to address issues such as unemployment, poverty, and inequality. "We intend to actively involve those who have been marginalized from the economy while addressing this," he said.
Moreover, Cyril Ramaphosa aims to collaborate with Indonesia and all BRICS economic bloc countries to promote global reforms. "We encourage the increased participation of Indonesia in all BRICS structures, particularly in BRICS economic partnerships," he added.
Meanwhile, Prabowo welcomed Cyril's invitation for the Red and White Cabinet to visit South Africa. "I will send a delegation to South Africa. We'll send a team," he said.
South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Wednesday morning, October 22, 2025, for a state visit and to meet President Prabowo Subianto.
He landed in Halim at around 07.40 AM local time. After landing, Cyril Ramaphosa immediately met with President Prabowo at Merdeka Palace. Prabowo will also host a state dinner for President Ramaphosa and the delegation.
Prabowo's last meeting with Ramaphosa was during his attendance at the BRICS Summit in Brazil earlier this year. South Africa is a member of the BRICS economic bloc, as is Indonesia. South Africa joined BRIC in 2011, thereby adding the letter "S" at the end to represent South Africa. South Africa hosted the BRICS Summit in 2018 and 2023.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto attended the 2025 BRICS Summit at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday, July 6, 2025. President Prabowo's attendance marks Indonesia's first participation in the BRICS Summit since becoming a member earlier this year.
