TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia will not be part of any military pact in the dynamics of international conflict. This was revealed by Prabowo when giving his first speech after being inaugurated as president in the MPR Plenary Session at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
"Indonesia chooses the path of active non-alignment," said Prabowo.
The former Defense Minister said that Indonesia chooses to be friendly with all countries. He expressed his desire to make Indonesia a good neighbor country. "We want to adopt the ancient philosophy, 'a thousand friends are too few, one enemy is too many'," he said.
Regarding his desire to be friendly with all countries, Prabowo conveyed his principles that are against colonization, oppression, and racialism, including apartheid, as the Indonesian people have experienced such things during the colonial era. "Therefore, we have a principle, we must be solidary, we must defend the oppressed people in this world," he stated.
Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka officially took office as the eighth President of Indonesia after reading the oath of office of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 period and signing the minutes.
The inauguration procession of Prabowo and Gibran started at 10:00 AM local time. The inauguration agenda was attended by Joko Widodo or Jokowi as the seventh President of Indonesia and 35 guest countries.
Present at the inauguration ceremony, MPR Chairperson Ahmad Muzani congratulated the two new Indonesian leaders for the next five years.
"On behalf of the leadership and members of the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia and all Indonesian people, we congratulate Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Mr. Gibran Rakabuming Raka," Muzani said in the session.
