TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian House Speaker, Puan Maharani, has revealed the contents of the discussion between President Prabowo Subianto and Megawati Soekarnoputri. Prabowo met the Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) at Megawati's residence on Teuku Umar Street, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, April 7, 2025.
According to Puan Maharani, the two political figures discussed collaboration for national interests. "They talked about how to work together to build the nation and the country," said Puan when met at the Parliamentary Complex in Central Jakarta on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Puan mentioned that during the meeting, Megawati expressed her support for the Red and White Cabinet Government. "The PDIP will work together to build, support, and cooperate with Pak Prabowo in carrying out his future presidential duties," said Puan.
In addition, Puan emphasized that the meeting during the 1446 Hijri Eid al-Fitr moment was a long-awaited form of acquaintance. This acquaintance, Puan said, finally materialized as planned, as she had previously revealed.
The meeting between the two political figures had been planned since last October. At that time, Prabowo admitted that he wanted to meet the 5th President of Indonesia before he was inaugurated. It was also revealed at that time that Prabowo and Megawati rarely met. Prabowo was said to have waited for two years to meet Megawati.
Six months after October 2024, the idea of a meeting between Prabowo and Megawati finally materialized. The Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party's Central Executive Committee, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that Prabowo did not inform Jokowi about his meeting with Megawati. According to Dasco, the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati earlier this week was a form of acquaintance during the Eid al-Fitr moment.
According to Dasco, this meeting confirms that there is no problem in Prabowo's relationship with Megawati. The Deputy House Speaker said that the two leaders of major parties in the country are friends. Dasco said that they discussed many things during the approximately 90-minute meeting.
Meanwhile, PDIP spokesperson Guntur Romli said that Megawati and Prabowo's meeting was face-to-face and discussed many more personal aspects of their friendship. Although sudden, said Guntur, the meeting had been planned for a long time.
In addition to personal topics, the Prabowo-Megawati meeting also discussed global issues such as the U.S.-China trade war, the conflict between Israel and Arab countries, the Russia-Ukraine war, tensions in the South China Sea, global warming and its impact on Indonesia, and national strategic issues.
