TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Religious Affairs has declared that Ramadan starts tomorrow, Saturday, March 1, 2025, after a closed Isbat session was held on Friday evening at the Haji Mohammad Rasjidi Auditorium at the ministry office in Central Jakarta.

The minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafi'i, Chair of the House Commission VIII Marwan Dasopang, Chair of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Education and Cadreship Abdullah Zaidi, and the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Abu Rokhmad.
Before the Isbat session commenced, a member of the ministry Hisab Rukyat team, Cecep Nurwendaya, presented the results related to the position of the new moon on the 29th of Syaban 1446 Hijri.
According to him, based on the MABIMS criteria, or the Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, on February 24, Indonesia has met the minimum criteria for the crescent height of 3 degrees and elongation of 6.4 degrees.
"Thus, based on the hisab, the first date of Ramadan 1446 Hijri falls on Saturday, March 1, 2025," said Cecep.
Cecep emphasized that the determination of the beginning of the months of Ramadan, Shawwal, and Zulhijah in Indonesia uses the methods of rukyat and hisab. Hisab is informative in nature, while the position of rukyat serves as confirmation of hisab.
Cecep revealed that in the northwest region of Aceh, including Sabang and Banda Aceh, the new crescent moon has met the visibility criteria. The results of this analysis were then brought to the Isbat session at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which was held in closed session at 7:30 p.m.
The ministry conducted overall hisab as well as technical aspects of rukyatul hilal (crescent moon sighting) in 125 locations across Indonesia.
Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Abu Rokhmad, stated that this observation involved experts in astronomy from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the District/City Ministry of Religious Affairs who collaborated with the Religious Courts, Islamic community organizations, and other relevant agencies.
Based on the hisab, the conjunction at the beginning of Ramadan occurred on Friday, February 28, around 07.44 a.m. local time. On the same day, the height of the hilal in all regions of Indonesia is already above the horizon between 3 5.91' to 4 40.96', with an elongation angle between 4 47.03' to 6 24.14'.
