TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Muhammad Syafi'i reveals the possibility of closing schools during the fasting month of Ramadan next year.
“There have been talks,” Syafi'i told reporters at the Parliament Complex, Central Jakarta, Monday, December 30, 2024.
Syafi’i, however, said the plan has not been discussed within the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Indonesian students are typically granted a three-day vacation at the start of Ramadan month. The schoolchildren’s early Ramadan vacation is regulated by the education offices in respective regions across Indonesia as well as the policies of each school.
Meanwhile, according to the joint ministerial decree, there will be 27 days off in the 2025 calendar year—17 days attributed to the national holidays and 10 days for joint leaves.
The regulation did not stipulate the regular vacation during Ramadan month for 2025.
Referring to the Muhammadiyah Single Global Hijriyah Calendar for 1446 H, the first day of Ramadan is expected to fall on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Meanwhile, the joint ministerial decree, the first day of Shawwal month, or Eid al-Fitr 2025, will fall on Monday, March 31, 2025.
