Jude Bellingham will reportedly miss months after he completes a long-awaited shoulder surgery this week.
In May, it was confirmed that the Real Madrid star had planned to undergo the procedure after the conclusion of the Club World Cup, which ended on Sunday with Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
Bellingham has struggled with the persistent problem since 2023 and worn strapping on his shoulder when playing for his club and England.
He delayed surgery through major competitions like the Champions League, Euro 2024 and the Club World Cup, but his patience finally ran out this summer.
'I'm fed up with the brace,' the 22-year-old said last month. 'I'm at that point where I'm ready to have a free shoulder and a free body.'
It is understood that Bellingham will have to wait until at least mid-October until he suits up again, according to Spanish outlet Sport.
Jude Bellingham is reportedly set to return in mid-October if his rehabilitation goes to plan
The Real Madrid star is set to undergo surgery on a long-term shoulder problem this week
Bellingham has been troubled by this injury since 2023 and has had to wear strapping in games
The expected rehabilitation time is around three months if all goes well, possibly stretching to four.
If the latter reality unfolds, Bellingham may be out until as late as November.
Thus, he is set to miss at least the first eight matches of La Liga, first two Champions League games, and likely the first two international breaks in September and October.
His possible return game could be when Madrid face Getafe in the league on October 19 after the international break.
Post-surgery, Bellingham will spend a minimum of one month with his shoulder stabilised and his arm secured in a sling to aid the healing process.
Bellingham played in all six of Madrid's Club World Cup matches this summer, helping his side reach the semi-finals by contributing a goal and an assist along the way.
Last season, the England international scored 14 goals and provided as many assists in all competitions for his club.
His domestic performances saw him earn a spot in LaLiga's Team of the Season for the second year running, having also won Player of the Season after his first term in Spain.
