New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson isn't letting the noise get to him after a disastrous Week 1 start against the Washington Commanders.
Wilson's poor performance led to speculation that head coach Brian Daboll could bench him for either rookie Jaxson Dart or backup Jameis Winston.
But in a post on X, the Super Bowl-winner wrote a simple two-word message to give a peek into his mindset.
'Mentally Tough,' wrote the 36-year-old quarterback on his account - which has 5.4million followers.
Wilson may be 'Mentally Tough', but he looked 'Competitively Rough' last Sunday - when he completed only 17-of-37 passes for just 168 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Speaking after the game, Wilson said that any coaching decisions are out of his hands and that he's focusing on improving.
Giants quarterback Russell Wilson is focusing on himself going into Week 2 against Dallas
After Wilson struggled in Week 1, many Giants fans are hoping Jaxson Dart (6) takes over
'I thought we competed our butts off today … they stopped us in the red zone. I think that was the name of this game,' he said.
But Daboll was non-committal on outright naming Wilson as the Week 2 starter for the team.
'We're going to get home and look at our game,' Daboll said when asked if he'd consider starting Dart in Week 2 against the rival Dallas Cowboys (via ESPN).
Daboll continued, 'Yeah we're just right here after the game. I've got confidence... We have to do better around overall - coaches, players, [all] around everybody. So we'll get focused and ready to go on to Dallas.'
After that remark, a member of the press mentioned that Daboll's response could be construed as a non-answer. Once again, he did not definitively say who would be the starter next week.
'We're talking about after every game. ... I've got confidence in Russ,' he said. 'We'll go back, evaluate the tape. This game isn't on Russell Wilson. It's not on Russell Wilson. Let me make that clear. I have confidence in Russ. We have to do a better job all the way around.'
