Matildas superstar Sam Kerr has confessed she's still trying to wrap her head around becoming a mother - and revealed the job she hopes her baby boy Jagger chooses to chase.

Kerr, who welcomed her first child with fiancée Kristie Mewis in May, has given a rare interview about the joys of being a mum following her recent return to the football pitch.

'I don't think it's really set in,' Kerr told the We Are Chelsea podcast.

'Me and Kristie always laugh, like sometimes he's laying on the bed and we're laughing because we're like, "Wait, he's ours".

'I always say to her, "It's so weird that that's the person that we were going to visit when you had your scans and like he's with us forever now", like we still haven't wrapped our heads around it, maybe we never will, but yeah, it seems wild.'

Kerr was quick to reveal her favourite thing about being a mum.

Kerr said her favourite thing about being a mum is coming home to Jagger (pictured together)

'I think he's just at a cool stage now where when I come home he's so excited to see me. It's just a nice feeling,' she said.

'It's like having a dog times 100. That's the way I would explain it to people. It's 100 times harder and it's 100 times better.

'So like people that love your dog, you love your baby way more, but it's like, real hard.

'Like, you can't just put your baby out in the backyard and be like, "Entertain yourself for halfa".'

Kerr's teammate, Erin Cuthbert, said she's been amazed by the striker's transformation into a mum.

'I've not seen that side of her but she just knows exactly what to do,' she said

'Previously she'd be like, "Uh, babies, what?" [and] "Oh my god, get them away"... but now she's just amazing.'

When it came to whether Jagger will follow his parents into a professional sporting career, Kerr wasn't fussed.

The sporting couple are expected to get married later this year

'I hope he gets into being a scientist or a surgeon – make heaps of money,' she said.

Last week, Kerr made a stunning return for Chelsea, scoring her 100th goal for the English side.

It was her first game in 20 months after she ruptured her ACL while on a training camp with the Blues in Morocco.

'I'm a goal-scorer, that's what I love doing,' she said. 'Those 100 goals represent a lot of hard work, dedication and sacrifices.

'For me, it's an amazing achievement and something I'll look back on for the rest of my life.'
