TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Java Police have named the Head of the Anesthesia Study Program at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Faculty of Medicine, Taufik Eko Nugroho, a suspect in extortion in the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS). Police also named a senior doctor, ZYA, and financial staff SM, as suspects.
"The suspects are TEN, SM and ZYA," said the Head of Public Relations at the Central Java Police, Commissioner Artanto, when confirmed on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
This alleged extortion was uncovered after a PPDS student, Aulia Risma, was found dead in her boarding house on August 12, 2024. She allegedly ended her life because she could not stand the extortion and bullying. Based on family information, she previously complained about being a victim of senior bullying.
Aulia Risma's family lawyer, Misyal Achmad, said that the head of the study program was responsible for this incident because every problem must go through his approval. "TEN, he created the program, set the time and learning materials, of course, he must be responsible. SM did the collection, and ZYA is suspected of intimidation and extortion," he said when contacted on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
The legal team and the family asked that this case continue to be investigated to completion. Misyal hopes that the police will immediately summon the suspect for further handling. "We collect evidence, witnesses and so on together. I hope they will be detained immediately so there will be no attempts to eliminate evidence," he said.
The police charged the suspects with the crime of extortion with violence and or coercion against another person by violence or threat of violence, as referred to in Article 368 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code and/or Article 335 paragraph (1) point 1 of the Criminal Code which has been amended by Constitutional Court Decision No. 1/PUU-XI/2013, with a maximum sentence of 9 years in prison.
Prior to the determination of the suspect, the police examined witnesses from the deceased's family, then from classmates, seniors, juniors, class leaders, class treasurers and then other parties related to and communicating with Aulia during her lifetime.
The Dean of Undip's Faculty of Medicine, Yan Wisnu Prajoko, acknowledged the practice of bullying in the PPDS Anesthesia Study Program. New students must pay a fee of Rp 20-40 million as a levy for six months or one semester. As a result of this case, the Ministry of Health stopped the PPDS Undip program at Karyadi Hospital, Semarang last August.
