Shocking moment college football fan body slams staffer in the stands amid dispute over ball

An Oklahoma Sooners fan is facing backlash online after footage showed him fighting - and body slamming - an LSU staffer on Saturday afternoon.

As players from both the Sooners and the LSU Tigers were warming up at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, chaotic scenes were going down in the stands. 

Footage that emerged prior to kick off that showed a Sooners fan in a scuffle with two LSU staffers, after refusing to hand over a ball that had sailed into the stands. 

Videos of the incident showed the LSU staffers attempting to retrieve the ball from the fan, who quickly grew agitated and began wrestling with the staff.

Eventually, as the LSU staffers continued to try and get the ball, the man picked one of them up and slammed him on the floor. 

Fans sat around them began calling out 'Hey' in an attempt to stop the man, while another Sooners supporter quickly intervened and tried to calm him down.

Police quickly arrived and broke up the situation, before giving the Sooners fan a talking to

The LSU staffer managed to get back to his feet shortly after, while the other one continued to tussle with the Sooners fan.

Eventually, the Sooners fan grew frustrated and launched the ball further into the stands, before continuing to antogonize the LSU staffers.

Thankfully, police were quickly on the scene and de-escalated the situation. 

They were later spotted talking to the fan that caused the scuffle and escorting him away, before he asked: 'Am I okay to go back to my seat?'

The Daily Mail has reached out to the University of Oklahoma for comment. 

The Sooners went on to secure a dramatic 17-13 win over the LSU Tigers, with Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer putting in a stunning performance. 

Mateer completed 23-of-38 attempted passes for 318 yards, including two touchdowns and three interceptions. 

After a tense opening half, which saw the scores locked at just 3-3, the game burst into life in the third quarter, with both team finding the opposition's end zone. 

However, the game was settled in the fourth quarter after Mateer found Isaiah Sategna for the touchdown, before Tate Sandell scored the conversion.
