TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The revitalization of the Tengger Museum in Ngadisari Village, Sukapura, Probolinggo, East Java, is now complete. Visitors to the Mount Bromo area can once again access the facility following its inauguration by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon and Probolinggo Deputy Regent Fahmi AHZ on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Located at the foot of Mount Bromo, the museum houses a diverse range of cultural heritage, including historical relics, documentation, traditional costumes, and various other artifacts. The collection reflects the ancestral values and traditions of the Tengger community, such as the Yadnya Kasada ceremony, which defines their identity and way of life.

"The Tengger community has shown that culture is not merely a legacy but a source of strength. The value of harmony between humans and nature, among individuals, and with the Creator, including the spirit of mutual cooperation, is an identity that must be maintained and preserved," Fadli Zon remarked during the ceremony.

The revitalization project aimed to introduce dynamic and interactive elements to the museum's displays, including content enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI). This technology portrays Tenggerese culture through engaging narratives without compromising the historical accuracy that attracts visitors.

Ikwan Setiawan, a Tengger cultural observer and researcher from the University of Jember, expressed hope that the revitalized museum would provide students, tourists, and the general public with more comprehensive insights. He noted that, until now, many versions of local fables and legends have failed to accurately reflect the actual history of the Tengger people.

He further suggested that the government organize educational and entertainment events at the museum to pique the interest of Generation Z. Proposed initiatives include workshops on history-based art, creative photography competitions, and other interactive programs.

The faculty member from the University of Jember’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences emphasized that the museum should offer a memorable and engaging experience, suggesting that artifact displays and information must remain dynamic to avoid becoming stagnant.

Probolinggo Regency Secretary Ugas Irwanto stated that the beautified museum is set to transform the face of tourism in the Bromo region. Moving forward, the museum, originally opened in 2017, will be integrated into official tour packages, ensuring that visits to Bromo extend beyond the sunrise to include a deep immersion into local culture.
