TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several studies show that many people crave intimacy not only through sex, but also through emotional touch. In a small survey of 571 respondents of various genders in the United States by the feminist sex shop Early To Bed, about half of the participants admitted they preferred cuddling to lovemaking. This means that the need for gentle physical closeness is just as important as sexual desire itself.
The good news is, you don't have to choose one. There are several sex positions that still allow penetration as well as space for embracing and cuddling. This way, emotional connection and physical satisfaction can go hand in hand.
Here are five sex positions recommended by experts for those of you who enjoy cuddle time:
1. Spooning Sex
As the name suggests, this position resembles spoons pressed together. The movements tend to be gentle with intense body contact. Partners can wrap their arms around each other, maintain a slow rhythm, and create a romantic atmosphere. Syncing their breath can also increase closeness and sensation.
2. Lotus (Yab Yum)
This sitting position, where you sit facing each other with your legs wrapped around each other, is known in tantric practices. With bodies pressed together, it's easy to hug, kiss, and maintain eye contact. The sound of breathing or soft moans in your ear can heighten arousal and deepen the connection.
3. Missionary
Classic yet still intimate. This position facilitates eye contact, kissing, and cuddling during penetration. With the right tempo, missionary can feel very personal and affectionate.
4. Side-by-Side Facing Each Other

Performed while sitting facing each other. This position allows for a close embrace and maximum touch on the chest, shoulders, or face. Skin-to-skin contact is key to maximizing the feeling of closeness.
