CJ Stroud was taken to the locker room to be checked for a concussion after the Texans quarterback was on the wrong end of a nasty collision against the Broncos.
Stroud's attempt to scramble for a first down ended in a brutal clash with Broncos cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine.
The quarterback's head bounced off the turf and there was immediate concern as he lay motionless on his back for several seconds.
Abrams-Draine protested his innocence after the collision, which came early in the second quarter as Stroud slid towards the turf.
Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton immediately called for medical attention, before tensions threatened to boil over and a shoving match broke out.
The quarterback was led off the field for further checks, with Houston revealing that he was questionable to return. Stroud was replaced under center by Davis Mills.
Texans star CJ Stroud was checked for a concussion after a nasty collision against the Broncos
The Texans star was not the first quarterback to suffer an injury scare on Sunday.
Aaron Rodgers appeared to hurt his hand in warmups with the Pittsburgh Steelers, just minutes before their game against Indianapolis Colts began.
The 41-year-old quarterback was seen talking to his center Zach Frazier, holding out his throwing hand and pointing towards his little finger.
It appeared that he was hurt from taking an errant snap and he appeared fairly concerned, flexing his hand out repeatedly.
Fortunately for the Steelers, Rodgers took to the field as usual with the Steelers offense beginning the game at Acrisure Stadium. He was sacked during the team's second drive of the game but quickly picked himself back up.
