TikTok Introduces STEM Feed: A New Hub for Learning

1 day ago 7

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTikTok has launched a special channel dedicated to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in Indonesia. This specialized channel has been accessible since its soft launch on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

One of TikTok's primary goals in introducing this channel is to acknowledge the immense popularity of educational content on their platform. In Indonesia alone, over 24 million educational videos have been uploaded.

"For a long time, educational content has been one of the favorite content categories for TikTok users, both globally and in Indonesia. Through the STEM feed, we want to provide a special experience in the application that makes it easy for the TikTok community to find science and technology content and share the learning spirit on TikTok," said Angga Anugrah Putra, TikTok's General Manager of Content Operations for Southeast Asia, at the STEM Feed's soft launch in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

Angga also shared that there are currently 135 million monthly active users in Indonesia who utilize TikTok for various purposes, including entertainment, business development, and exploring new hobbies.

"And not only entertaining, content creators also use creative spaces on TikTok to continue sharing positive, educational, and inspirational works by utilizing the power of discovery on TikTok to be found by more users around the world globally," he said.

On a global scale, educational content featuring STEM-related tags has garnered over 110 billion views on TikTok. Furthermore, STEM content has experienced a rapid growth of 35 percent since TikTok launched the STEM feed in several markets, including America, Europe, and Australia.

"In Indonesia, the STEM feed will be automatically available to users under 18 years old. We believe that this will not only cultivate the interest of the younger generation in STEM but also encourage the creation of STEM talent for the future of Indonesia," he explained.

According to TikTok's official website, many users can now access the STEM channel to discover scientific educational content from local creators and publishers on TikTok. The introduction of the STEM feed channel aligns with TikTok's dedication to supporting the growth of learning communities and the government's objective to strengthen STEM talent in Indonesia.

Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid emphasized that STEM is essential for driving technological innovation and providing practical solutions to global challenges. Meutya also welcomed the special STEM channel on TikTok as a step towards improving literacy and fostering STEM talent in Indonesia.

"This initiative is not just entertainment but an investment for the future. I am optimistic that TikTok's STEM feed can equip the younger generation with knowledge of science and technology, enhance the nation's competitiveness, and support the government's target to produce 9 million digital talents by 2030," said Meutya.

Meutya expressed optimism that with wider access and engaging educational content, TikTok can become a place where young innovators are born, ready to make Indonesia a leading digital force in Southeast Asia.
