A bush footy side has been left shattered after one of its favourite sons was tragically killed in a rural vehicle incident in northern NSW.
An 11-year-old boy killed in a car crash has been identified as Leighton Stevens. Emergency services were called to Girraween Road in Graman after a ute rolled over late Thursday morning.
Leighton, believed to have been driving, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene. Reports suggest he swerved to avoid a cow while heading to a family paddock with another 11-year-old passenger.
The passenger was airlifted to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition.
It is common practice for children to drive vehicles on rural properties and there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing.
The tiny community of Graman, with just over 100 residents, has been left devastated, with locals remembering Leighton as a rugby-loving 'true role model' and launching a GoFundMe in his honour.
